Tori Amos wrote the score for a musical that will run at Britain’s National Theatre. According to Yahoo! News, the veteran singer-songwriter created the music for a play based on 19th-century fairy tale, “The Light Princess.” The project will be staged in 2012.
While the economy is detrimentally influencing Britain’s state-funded theater, probably spurring cuts in funding to reduce the country’s deficit, the theater has produced a string of successes, a few of which have moved to Broadway. In a positive sign, the National Theatre’s art director, Nicholas Hytner, tells Yahoo!, “When the economy is down, we should be up…I don’t want to go timid and stop spending just because the economy is contracting.”
