Amazon Considers Streaming Video Service

Amazon may be gearing up for battle with Netflix in the coming months, as the Internet giant is considering a jump into steaming video subscription services.

The online retailer is currently in discussions with studios regarding the acquisition of movie rights for streaming purposes. Amazon’s service would be bundled as part of their Prime service, which customers pay $79.99 for free two-day shipping on their products.

Amazon already offers Video-on-Demand, a service allowing individuals to rent or purchase videos. But this move would be the first time Amazon has entered the streaming subscription market—a major move that has been sparked by the company’s recent purchase of the U.K. rental service LoveFilm.

No details as to this service’s launch date have been revealed.
