Apple Reveals Subscription Service for Apps

Apple has revealed plans for a subscription service for apps. “All we require is that, if a publisher is making a subscription offer outside of the app, the same (or better) offer be made inside the app,” Steve Jobs said in a statement, "so that customers can easily subscribe with one-click right in the app.”

Thankfully, that isn’t a huge concern for subscribers, but it has a major impact on all iPad/iPod/iPhone app developers, who now must hand over 30% of all their subscription revenue to Apple. That has deterred some developers, such as Time Warner’s Time Inc., from entering Apple’s market, instead electing to develop for Google’s Android.
