Banksy Leaves His Mark on Los Angeles
Just days before the Academy Awards, Banksy has brought his artwork to the streets of Los Angeles. Reuters reported on the appearance of Banksy’s artwork and captured images of the street art that he placed on city billboards and walls before they were taken down.
One piece features a Mickey Mouse grabbing the breast of a model. This graffiti art was on a billboard opposite the Directors Guild of America offices. Another piece is an Oscar-like gold figure standing on a red carpet, wearing a hoodie and being guarded by Star Wars-style troopers.
The reclusive street artist is nominated for best documentary for his film Exit Through the Gift Shop. The documentary premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and Banksy made his presence known there as well by painting pieces in the streets.
Banksy has little over a week to continue promoting; the Oscars will be handed out in Los Angeles on Feb. 27.
