Ben Affleck Directing, George Clooney Producing Iran Hostage Crisis Film
Ben Affleck is in talks to direct a George Clooney-produced film about the 1979 hostage crisis in Iran, which involved six American hostages being rescued by the CIA and Canadian forces.
The method by which the two groups rescued the hostages is a bit unorthodox: They hired a disguise expert and claimed the six hostages were part of a Hollywood stunt team scouting locations for a movie called Argo, which is the title of the new film. The CIA enlisted the help of comics creator Jack Kirby, whose drawings helped convince the Iranians that Argo was real.
The screenplay was written by Chris Terrio; David Klawans is also producing.
