The 1966 film Gambit, starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine, will be remade with Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth as the stars and the Coen brothers as writers, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story follows Firth as an art curator who plans to trick a wealthy art collector into buying a fake Monet painting. As Firth’s partner, Diaz will play a woman who claims to have received the painting from her grandfather after he procured it at the end of World War 2.
Firth is widely regarded as the favorite for Best Actor in the upcoming Academy Awards for his role in The King’s Speech. Diaz just finished shooting Bad Teacher.
