Update: Gorillaz Apparently Not Calling it Quits

Update: Jamie Hewlett’s son, Denholm, made a post on the Gorillaz-Unofficial blog (via Consequence of Sound) debunking the break-up rumors. “Hey everyonee [sic], listen, i just spoke to my dad and told him about this, and he said its rubbish, they have kinda fallen out, just not about the reasons stated above in the article, they’re just taking time apart from each other to work on other projects :) gorillaz are not gunna split up, its fine :) ignore this tabloid x”

The anonymous post, identified only by the title “THIS IS DENHOLM :)” was later confirmed by Denholm on his formspring account.

In the wake of the White Stripes and LCD Soundsystem’s respective break-ups, UK newspaper The People is reporting that cartoon band Gorillaz has called it quits.

This news, if true, confirms rumors that the band would split upon completing its recent world tour. According to the report, bandmates Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett had a “massive argument” following the band’s final performance, that “basically ended things.” Also according to the report, Hewlett was becoming annoyed with Albarn’s growing attention on various other projects—an opera and the return of Blur.

Gorillaz’s latest album, The Fall, was released on Christmas day this past year.
