Yo La Tengo, Big Star, R.E.M., M. Ward Playing New Orleans Benefit in NYC

On March 26, a concert in New York City will bring together big names like Jody Stephens (Big Star), Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Mitch Easter (Let’s Active), M. Ward, Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo), Tift Merritt and more to perform Big Star’s 1978 album Third/Sister Lovers.

Additional musicians include Chris Stamey (the dB’s), Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Will Rigby (the dB’s), Matthew Sweet, The Lost in the Trees Orchestra with Jane Scarpantoni, Django Haskins (The Old Ceremony), Brett Harris, Sidney Dixon and Matt McMichaels. Plus the organizers expect “more special guests.”

Baruch College’s Mason Hall will host the show, where the musicians will play all of Third plus more Big Star and Chris Bell songs.

Tickets went on sale today at 11 a.m. The proceeds will benefit the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and El Sistema NYC.
