Dr. Dre Releases Epic Music Video from Detox
In a little over a month, we may finally see the release of Dr. Dre’s long-awaited follow-up to 2001. The album has been in the works since as early as 2003, and several supposed release dates have come and gone, but unless Dre is messing with us once again, Detox should be released on April 1 this year.... read more
Middle Brother: Middle Brother
Very rarely does a supergroup manage to come up with something as good as the sum of its parts. It isn’t a given that a band with three frontmen will be able to effectively pool its talents. But on their self-titled debut, the men of Middle Brother sound as if they’ve been playing together for years. read more
Californication Review: "Lights. Camera. Asshole" (Episode 4.08)
In “Lights, Camera, Asshole,” we find Hank caught in the crossfires his usual antics once again in an entertaining, but relatively superficial episode. Sasha is back on board thanks to Eddie Nero and Fucking and Punching seems to be moving full steam ahead. Not only that, but Sasha has asked for Hank to “polish her dialogue” on her upcoming blockbuster zombie-cop action thriller sequel. Hank’s a skeptic as always—until he learns that the one-week gig will reap a nice little paycheck of $100,000.... read more
The Stooges Announce Raw Power Live Album
After performing their 1973 classic Raw Power throughout much of the last year, Iggy and The Stooges will release a live recording of the record. On April 5, the band will bring Raw Power Live: In the Hands of the Fans to stores. The record documents the proto-punk legends playing the record live in its entirety at last September’s All Tomorrow’s Parties. “Getting this top-notch performance of the entire Raw Power album by The Stooges realized a life long dream,” Iggy said in a statement. “This shit really sizzles and we are so obviously a crack band in a class... read more

Should-Be Oscar Interview: Scott Seeke on Get Low
Paste’s choice for the Best Original Screenplay of 2010 isn’t even nominated for an Academy Award. The script was originally penned by Atlanta’s Scott Seeke and his friend Chris Provenzano based on a story that Seeke’s wife’s grandfather told him on the porch one night. Ten years and several Hollywood legends later, Get Low made its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, was immediately bought by Sony Pictures, and has moved audiences everywhere. This week it’s finally out on DVD and Blu-Ray. Paste sat down recently with Scott to talk about the film’s origins, themes, and reception.... read more

The Least Sexy "Sexy" Game Trailer Ever Made
It's not like videogame trailers are usually very sexy. I mean, God of War 3's trailer was pretty fundamentally unsexy, from what I remember. Party games usually have it even worse, often resigning themselves to simply showing a few clips of a multicultural group of young JC Penny models laughing and swinging about motion controls at some vague and underpopulated daytime social gathering. So to be honest, I'm thankful for the trailer for Ubisoft's upcoming party game We Dare, simply because it's one of the more ludicrous things I've seen in a good long while.... read more

Predicting the Oscars: An Oscar Blogger Breaks It Down For You
“Think of Rocky winning in 1976 over All the President’s Men, Network, and Taxi Driver,” Oscar blogger Adam Lucyk says about the race for Best Picture. “Think of How Green Was My Valley winning over Citizen Kane in 1941. Think of Gigi winning over Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 1958. All examples of why I’m hoping The Social Network pulls it out, but still can’t quite predict it.”... read more
Salute Your Shorts: 2011 Oscar-nominated Documentaries
For the first time ever, this year the films nominated for the Academy Awards’ short documentary prize are publicly available. It’s not a surprise that the category’s long been so neglected, since both short films and documentaries have always been fairly ghettoized. There’s also perhaps a bigger issue with the category’s restraints here than with live action and animated shorts. While those shorts are in fact made for festivals, most of the best documentaries made in any given year are produced in order to be sold to television, and television shows are disqualified from the category.... read more
