Magicians Battle Hitler In New HBO Series

The author of “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay”, which made our best books of the decade list, is now working on a series for HBO.

Michael Chabon is developing “Hobgoblin”, a show that follows “a group of magicians and con men who use their skills at deception to battle Hitler and his forces during World War II”.

Chabon is creating the work of fiction, giving it a foundation with the legend Erik Jan Hanussen. Hanussen was an Austrian stage magician and supposed clairvoyant who hid his Jewish background and allegedly held meetings with Hitler, whom he taught mind control.

The series will tread familiar ground for Chabon, who often uses Jewish history and various genres to create his stories.
