Peter Hook to Perform Closer Live, Re-Record Joy Division Tracks

After focusing much of his touring efforts around recreating Unknown Pleasures last year, former Joy Division bassist Peter Hook will continue to resurrect his band’s past work. Hook has revealed that he will be performing Closer in its entirety on May 18 at The Factory in Manchester with his band, The Light. This concert will be recorded for a vinyl-only release that may come out sometime later this year.

While many fans have not been pleased with his attempts to recreate the music of the influential post-punk group, Hook does not seem phased by it. “I expect criticism all the time now, but when it’s unjustified I will rise to it,” he stated in a recent interview with the Manchester Evening News. “Most people are ill-informed and it’s very unfair. You just have to follow your heart with these things.” Check out video from the interview below.

In addition to Closer, Hook will also release 1102/2011, his debut EP with The Light featuring Rowetta. This release will include reinterpretations of Joy Division’s “Insight,” “New Dawn Fades,” “Atmosphere” and “Pictures In My Mind.”

1102/2011 tracklist:
1. “Pictures In My Mind” (vocals by Peter Hook)
2. “Insight” (vocals by Rowetta)
3. “New Dawn Fades” (vocals by Rowetta)
4. “Atmosphere” (vocals by Rowetta)
