Twitter Users Create Twitter Cover Band

Twitter has generated its first cover band. Tw1tterband recently started making music, and quickly earned a compliment from a notable guitarist while earning some money for a charity to boot.

Richard Newman from Chichester, West Sussex had the idea to celebrate his two-year anniversary on Twitter, by using the site to create a cover band. Newman wanted to record a cover of Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May” and used Twitter to recruit band members as well as a producer. Within days of launching the idea, Tw1tterband was born, the track had been recorded and a video was made. The project raised more than £2,000 in donations for MacMillan Cancer Support.

The band recently released their a cover of the Smiths’ “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” as their second single. The cover caught the attention of The Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr who tweeted, “Nice job. I’m touched.”
