Andy Warhol Self-Portrait Up For Auction

Andy Warhol Self-Portrait Up For Auction

One of Andy Warhol’s self-portraits, is being put up for auction next month through Christie auction house.

“Self-Portrait,” done in 1986 and completed shortly before his death, is expected to sell for as much as $40 million, Christie’s said.

Six other large self-portraits were painted by Warhol in 1986, and all reside in museums or foundation collections.

“With all the other examples in museums, it will be the last chance that buyers will have to bid on a work that shifted art history,” said Amy Cappellazzo, Christie’s international co-head and deputy chairman of post-war and contemporary art.

The auction house also recently announced that it would sell the artist’s very first self portrait, a 1963 four-panel silkscreen. The auction date for the piece is unknown at this time.
