Aretha Franklin Announces First Album in Eight Years

Now that the Aretha Franklin has recovered from her recent health scares, she’s ready to make a full return to music. The Queen of Soul recently announced a series of tour dates, and now the singer is preparing to put out her first album in eight years.

Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love was produced by Franklin and will be released through the singer’s own label, Aretha Records. Other production credits go to Franklin’s sons, Kecalf and Eddie.

The album features modern standards and classics alike including, “Theme from a Summer Place,” gospel hymn “His Eye is on The Sparrow” and a cover of B.B. King’s “Sweet Sixteen.” “It’s definitely going to take the boomers back,” Franklin told the Associated Press, “but it’s also contemporary.” The bonus track on the album is a live version of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” from Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration in 2009.

Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love will be released on May 3. However, the album will only be available through Walmart for its first month. Starting June 3, it can be purchased from digital services and other retailers.
