Win a Voice Role in Neil Gaiman's American Gods Audiobook

HarperAudio has announced a “contest to select a guest reader in the full cast audio production of New York Times bestselling author Neil Gaiman’s American Gods: 10th Anniversary Edition unabridged audiobook.”

Bookperk.com will host the contest, which begins today (April 13).

To enter the contest, fans must record themselves reading an excerpt from American Gods, and then upload it. The public then votes on their favorite.

After narrowing the field to the 20 most popular auditions, Gaiman and HarperAudio will then select the winner.

The winner gets a trip to New York City to take part in the full-cast audio production. The release reads, “In addition to Gaiman, cast members include Fred Berman, Anne Bobby, Dennis Boutsikaris, Tim Cain, Richard Ferrone, Adam Grupper, Sarah Jones, Pete Larkin, Kathleen McInerney, Ron McLarty, Prentice Onayemi, Daniel Oreskes, Paula Parker, Maggi-Meg Reed, Yelena Shmulenson, Alan Winter, and Oliver Wyman.”

Gaiman had this to say:

I love audio books, and George Guidall’s reading of American Gods was a gold standard of its kind – such that I couldn’t imagine getting someone else in to read the whole book in the new edition. But I’d never had a full-cast audio version of one of my books, and the opportunity to get a dozen amazing actors into a studio (and to take part myself) just seemed too good to be true. I’m really looking forward to it.

I’ve always tried to do things that would include people. There are 1.5 million people following me on Twitter, nearly half a million on Facebook, and lord alone knows how many reading my blog. So when HarperAudio offered them the chance to get involved I was thrilled. I love the idea that one of those people will be on the audio recording.

The deadline for entry is Monday, May 2 at 5 p.m. EST.
