It seems that strange things are afoot at the Circle K once again. Although Keanu Reeves mentioned the possibility of a Bill & Ted 3 last year, he was a little vague about whether or not it would actually happen. However, the actor recently revealed details about the current state of the project.
“I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft,” he told MTV News earlier this week, adding jokingly, “No pressure, guys!”
Reeves said that he knew “a little bit” about the plot, but was still reluctant to give any concrete details. “I don’t know — the fellas went off and cooked it up. I don’t know what happened when they put the elements together.”
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, the first film in the series, focused on two slacker teenagers sent on a time-traveling quest in an effort to pass their high-school history project. The film was followed by a sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
Reeves said the plot of the new film might figure into the overall story arc of the series.”When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened,” he said. “So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”
Perhaps the third installment in the franchise will see Bill & Ted’s band Wyld Stallyns finally fulfilling the destiny foretold by Rufus (George Carlin) in the 1989 original. Too bad Carlin won’t be around to lead the duo on their journey. Bummer.
