Today, from eco-minded living to sustainable resources, Earth Day celebrates everything green. However, the geeks of the collective Internet celebrate a slightly different occasion: Middle Earth Day.

Started by musical-comedy duo Paul and Storm (@paulandstorm), the hashtag #MiddleEarthDay began making the rounds all over Twitter this morning, quickly being picked up by the likes of John Moe (@johnmoe) and Foxtrot cartoonist Bill Amend (@billamend). Combining Lord of the Rings references with eco-sensitivity, here are some of our favorite #MiddleEarthDay tweets.
