Russell Brand has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages.
The project’s director, Adam Shankman, made the announcement on Wednesday via Twitter. “I can officially announce Russell Brand as your Lonny in #rockofagesmovie! I see a mullet in his future…maybe a Nikki Six?”
Lonny, the owner of a rock nightclub, is the narrator of the film. Brand has portrayed a rock star in the past with performances as Aldous Snow in Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
The comedic actor joins Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti and Mary J. Blige. Amy Adams is reportedly being considered for a role as well.
Shooting is scheduled to begin on May 19 in Miami, which will be tweaked to serve as the Los Angeles setting for the film.
“I can’t shut down the Sunset Strip for six weeks, and in Miami we’re turning four blocks basically into a back lot,” Shankman explained. “We’ll digitally add in the hills.”Got news tips for Paste? Email news@pastemagazine.com.
