Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling to Star in Gangster Squad?

Both Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling are in consideration for the lead roles in The Gangster Squad. The film is a 1940s crime drama based on the true story of L.A. gangster Mickey Cohen. If both actors are secured, Penn will fill the role of Cohen while Gosling will star opposite as a member of a special police task force enlisted to bring the gangster down.

The script for The Gangster Squad has roots in a series of articles written for the_ L.A. Times_ by Paul Liebermann and was written by ex-L.A. cop-turned-novelist William Beall. Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is set to direct.
