Time Travel Banned in China

The Chinese government has called for a ban on all television shows and films that use time travel as a plot point, despite, or perhaps, due to the fact that the genre has become increasingly popular in the country. The State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television in the country feels that such forms of entertainment “are treating the serious history in a frivolous way, which should by no means be encouraged anymore,” according to a report on ChinaHush.com.

Another statement, quoted in The New York Times, says that the administration has qualms with the genre because its works “casually make up myths, have monstrous and weird plots, use absurd tactics, and even promote feudalism, superstition, fatalism and reincarnation.”

What about Hot Tub Time Machine? No “weird plot” or “absurd tactics” there, right?
