During last night’s over-the-top American Idol finale, Bono and The Edge performed “Rise Above,” a song from their long-delayed musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. The pair wrote the score for the rather unpopular production, which premiered earlier this year. Star Reeve Carney joined the U2 guys onstage for a bordering-on-corny performance of the rock ballad, featuring a high-flying stuntperson in a Spider-Man costume flipping all over the arena and threatening to topple into the audience at any moment. Eek. But, despite all of the kitsch of the act, the song is actually quite good. Carney is a talented singer and of course, Bono still has it.
