If you’re a member of the Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Eidos Interactive community sites, looks like its time to change your passwords again. Hackers, possibly the same ones behind the PSN security breach, have attacked the two sites, gaining access to users’ personal information.
According to chat logs obtained by security firm KrebsOnSecurity, the hackers have some 80,000 users’ information, and have plans to leak it on file-sharing networks. The image seen here is a defacement banner left on deusex.com.
The situation could have been much more severe though, based upon the chat logs obtained. Users involved in the attacks chatted about the possibilities of what they could have done during the breach, including uploading a computer-bricking virus disguised as an exploit kit hosted on the site’s homepage. See the chat logs below:
[16:07] one thing that would be funny
[16:07] i write a nasty virus
[16:07] that will bsod on startup
[16:07] fuck up all your drivers
[16:07] delete tons of files
[16:07] forkbom on start
[16:07] etc
[16:08] we put that in an exploit kit
[16:08] on the main page
[16:08] there security will be responsible
[16:08] for like
[16:08] thousands of fucked up computers
[16:08] and it would make the news
For those not familiar, “bsod” stands for “blue screen of death,” the screen that appears when Windows crashes. Luckily, this part of the attack never took place, but these data intrusions raise questions about the security of our information in this digital age.
