Zach Braff In Talks to Join Oz Prequel

Zach Braff is in final talks to join the cast of the Sam Raimi-directed Oz: The Great and Powerful.

The Scrubs star will play the role of Frank, Oz’s loyal but under-appreciated assistant.

A prequel to L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the film is told from the point of view of the wizard, played by James Franco. After his balloon blows off course into the land of Oz, the circus magician is treated as a powerful wizard by the townsfolk, who want him to eliminate the Wicked Witch.

Filming of the movie, which also stars Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz, will begin July in Michigan.

Oz: The Great and Powerful is set to release in 3D by Disney on March 8, 2013.
