Alec Baldwin (Maybe) Considering a Run for Mayor?

According to The Daily, Alec Baldwin has expressed interest in running for mayor of New York City when incumbent Michael Bloomberg leaves office in 2013.

An unnamed friend of the actor told The Daily that Baldwin thinks the aftershocks of Weinergate may have shaken up the field of candidates enough that he might be able to win the mayoral seat. The actor has been talking to the media about running for some kind of government position since the ’90s and has mentioned it in recent interviews. While this unnamed friend may not be enough to go on, the idea of Baldwin in government is enough for us to get excited.

Unfortunately, this inevitably means the end of Baldwin’s acting career. There has been talk of Baldwin leaving 30 Rock when his contract expires in 2012. Though Baldwin has denied this in the past, these new political possibilities might change everything. We’ll miss cheeky Jack Donaghy, but if all this buzz is true, we could be seeing Baldwin as mayor in the future.
