Amy Adams is formally set to star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Scientology project.
The film, which will begin production later this month, is centered around a man known as “the Master” who develops a faith-based organization in the 1950s. Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast as Lancaster Dodd (the Master), and Joaquin Phoenix will portray his right-hand man Freddie Sutton, a young drifter. Adams will play Dodd’s wife.
The Oscar-nominated actress will also appear in upcoming films The Muppets, out this year, and the Superman reboot Man of Steel, out in 2012.
Anderson’s yet-to-be-titled project is set to release in 2013.
