Emma Thompson to Write Annie Remake?

Back in January, Will Smith and Jay-Z teamed up to remake the beloved musical Annie, a partnership with the intent “to develop and produce major motion pictures.”

Now, the powerhouse duo is trying to enlist the help of another Hollywood juggernaut for the project.

Vulture has reported that Smith wants Oscar-winning screenwriter and actress Emma Thompson to script the new adaptation. The Annie remake will be an updated version that would star Smith’s daughter, “Whip My Hair” teacher Willow.

Thompson, who wrote Nanny McPhee Returns in 2010, is currently working alongside Smith as Agent O in Men in Black III.
