Last year, Trent Reznor revealed that a miniseries based on Nine Inch Nails’ 2007 concept album Year Zero was in development with HBO and BBC.
Now, the series finally has received a screenwriter in the form of Fight Club writer Jim Uhls. This will mark the second collaboration between Reznor and a member behind the 1999 film—NIN’s frontman previously worked with Fight Club director David Fincher on the score for The Social Network, also directed by Fincher.
Year Zero is centered around a dystopian society in 2022, where the United States is governed by Christian fundamentalists. In the series, anyone who shows independent thought or dissent disappears.
The show will be Reznor’s first major move into dramatic fiction writing. After winning an Oscar for Best Score for The Social Network, he is currently scoring Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
