Quentin Tarantino is after Leonardo DiCaprio.
The director reportedly wanted DiCaprio for the role of Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds (the part went to Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of the “Jewhunter”). Now, rumors are surfacing that he wants the actor for his next project, Django Unchained.
Several Twitter posts have been claiming that DiCaprio has been cast as the villain Calvin Candie, including those by Jeff Goldsmith of Creative Screenwriting and Jeff Sneider of Variety.
If DiCaprio were to play Candie, he would join a cast that includes Tarantino-veterans Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson. Will Smith is also rumored to star as Django.
Django Unchained is a spaghetti Western about a freed slave who teams with a German bounty hunter (Waltz) to save his wife from evil plantation owner Candie. It is currently set to release in 2013.
