Princess Di Documentary to Release in Theaters?

Nearly 14 years after the tragic car crash in which Princess Diana and her companion Dodi Al-Fayed were killed, the details surrounding the event are still being discussed.

One filmmaker, Keith Allen, went as far as making a documentary that alleges a cover-up of the accident.

Financed by Al-Fayed’s father Mohamed, Allen’s film Unlawful Killing investigates a 2007 inquest that the pair were killed because of the “gross negligence of limousine driver Henri Paul and the paparazzi who chased the couple.” The film, which is critical of the royal family, makes a case for a conspiracy that hides pertinent information from the British media.

The documentary has secured deals to be distributed in Russia, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, and — while no deal has been made — there is also interest in the U.S.

“We’re determined to have a major North American release, whether in theaters or on television,” said Conor Nolan, a member of Al-Fayed’s production company.

Due to its controversial nature, Unlawful Killing was turned down by British film companies and broadcasters and will not be allowed to air in the United Kingdom unless 87 cuts are made “to comply with the nation’s libel laws.”
