The nominations for the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were revealed this morning. Actors Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Mike & Molly ) and Joshua Jackson (Fringe) announced the nominees.
Emmy darling Mad Men (AMC) will be challenged by Boardwalk Empire (HBO), Game of Thrones (HBO), Friday Night Lights (NBC), Dexter (Showtime) and The Good Wife (CBS) for Best Drama.
Mad Men, which has won the title three times so far, earned the most nominations of any single drama, with 19 nods.
The hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory received its first nomination for Best Comedy. It will be competing against last year’s winner, ABC’s Modern Family, along with Fox’s Glee and three NBC shows, The Office, 30 Rock and Parks & Recreation.
For Best Lead Actress in a Drama, the nominees are Julianna Margulies of The Good Wife, Connie Britton of Friday Night Lights, Elisabeth Moss of Mad Men, Mireille Enos of The Killing (AMC), Kathy Bates of Harry’s Law (NBC) and Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC).
The nominations for Best Lead Actor in a Drama are Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights, Jon Hamm of Mad Men, Steve Buscemi of Boardwalk Empire, Michael C. Hall of Dexter, Timothy Olyphant of Justified (FX) and Hugh Laurie of House (Fox).
Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory, last year’s winner for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy, was nominated again, along with co-star Johnny Galecki. They are joined by Matt LeBlanc of Episodes (Showtime), Louis C.K. of Louie (FX), Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock and Steve Carell of The Office. Carell, who ended his run as Michael Scott on the show this season, has been nominated for the past five years but has never won.
Best Lead Actress in a Comedy nominees include last year’s winner, Edie Falco of Nurse Jackie (Showtime), Tina Fey of 30 Rock, Amy Poehler of Parks and Recreation, Martha Plimpton of Raising Hope (Fox), Melissa McCarthy of CBS’s Mike & Molly (CBS), and Laura Linney of The Big C (Showtime).
