Captain Planet Film In The Works

It’s been more than a decade since Captain Planet and his Planeteers graced our televisions, educating viewers about the human effect on our ecosystems and how we can help save the environment.

Now, by their powers combined, producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford (Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Real Steel) have negotiated a contract with Cartoon Network to develop a live action film — the first in a new franchise.

Captain Planet was created by Ted Turner, and originally began airing in 1990. The show follows the titular hero and his five Planeteers, who control five rings that represent different elements. They defend the earth against natural disasters and “Eco-Villains,” and teach viewers the importance of saving the planet.

“We are extremely excited about bringing the good captain back to life,” said Murphy. “[The Captain’s] adventures are known worldwide and he is recognized across generations.”
