Damon Albarn doesn’t seem to be busy enough preparing for his opera. The Gorillaz/Blur frontman is now apparently in the Congo recording an album with a slew of producers for the charity organization Oxfam.
Albarn’s team includes T-E-E-D (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs), Dan The Automator, Jneiro Jarel, Richard Russell, Actress, Marc Antoine, Jo Gunton and Kwes, and apparently the group hopes to bring local musicians into the studio as well.
The project, now known as DRC Music, has a Twitter and a Tumblr set up to document Albarn’s progress. Only a handful of photos have been put up so far, but a couple of the posts feature what could be Albarn’s Congolese collaborators.
Albarn is no stranger to humanitarian efforts. In addition to visiting the Congo in the past, he has also recorded in Nigeria with Tony Allen and produced an album in Mali for Oxfam back in 2001.
