Filming on Oz: The Great and Powerful Begins

Filming on Disney’s upcoming project, the Sam Raimi-directed Oz: The Great and Powerful has begun.

The studio announced in a press release that filming started in Pontiac, Mich., on Monday. Production will take place entirely at the new Raleigh Michigan Studios, which was once the location of General Motors’ Centerpoint business campus and truck manufacturing plant.

Oz: The Great and Powerful is a reimagination of L. Frank Baum’s beloved story. The film follows Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a circus magician who finds himself taken to the Land of Oz. There, he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), and, along with his assistant (Zach Braff) is drawn into problems facing Oz and its inhabitants.

Oz: The Great and Powerful is set to release March 8, 2013 via Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
