Though Lily Allen’s performing career might be on hiatus, her musical career certainly isn’t—her stage musical career, that is.
Last year, it was announced that the Brit pop star would pen songs for the stage adaptation of Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’s Diary.
Allen recently confirmed to Britain’s Elle magazine that she is almost finished writing the songs, and that we can expect the musical to hit in 2012.
Commenting on her “retirement,” the songstress told Elle, “I’m still writing. I’m just writing for other people. I’ve nearly finished a musical. I think it’ll be out sometime next year.”
The musical, which will debut in London’s West End, will be scripted by author Fielding and produced by Working Title.
The film version of Bridget Jones’s Diary, starring Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, was released in 2001. The novel debuted in 1996.
