Rilo Kiley have officially broken up, reports Spinner.
In an interview with the website, guitarist Blake Sennett revealed that the group has split after they were thought to be on hiatus.
“I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don’t really want to submit myself to,” said Sennett. “I had related that frustration to music but I just thought, ‘I’m not going to put myself in that position again,’ so I said, ‘Fuck that, I can’t do this anymore.’”
The indie rock quartet was thought to be taking a break while lead singer Jenny Lewis worked with her partner Johnathan Rice on the project Jenny and Johnny and Sennett worked on his side project, The Elected.
Since forming in 1998, Rilo Kiley released five studio albums, the most recent Under the Blacklight in 2007.
“I don’t think it was our best record by far,” Bennett said of Under the Blacklight. “I think that it could have been our best but I think we were under pressure. There were some of our best songs on that record but some of our worst songs.”
However, the guitarist also revealed that the band has a collection of unreleased songs.
“I think we’re going to try and release a two-disc set of 40 songs, or something,” he said. “I think that can be more considered like our last release, to me. But I don’t know.”
