Eight-time Academy Awards host Billy Crystal is ready to step back onto the stage. He said he was “itchy” to host again after making an appearance at last year’s ceremony during a tribute to Bob Hope. When asked about hosting at an event in California he said, “It’s always fun. It’s really hard, but maybe one or two more times? I don’t know. They know where I am.”
By the looks of it, it seems that the responsibility to make the Oscars funny again is in the producers’ hands. It looks like an easy enough decision. In the seven years since Crystal’s last stint as host in 2004, the Oscars have averaged 38.42 million viewers. The 2004 viewership was 43.56 million, and Crystal averaged 45.18 million in the eight times that he had hosted.
If the Oscars want to breathe some fresh air into their program, they might want to look at returning to the 63-year-old comedian.
