Originally slated to drop Sept. 27, much-hyped Alabama-native rapper Yelawolf has pushed back the release of his second major-label album, Radioactive. According to Hip-Hop DX, the official release date is now Oct. 25.
The new date means the release of Radioactive will coincide with those of some industry heavyweights, notably Drake, Coldplay, Kelly Clarkson and Justice.
The official reason for the delay is unknown, but it seems Yelawolf is pouring his heart and soul into the new album, citing his central aim is to be as honest as possible about his feelings, inspirations and will to survive. He claims Radioactive to be “as honest as it gets.”
The rapper also mentioned that he has made an effort to give the album crossover appeal and allow it to be active on the radio—hence its title. His open desire to resonate with the mainstream could potentially be a very good or very bad move for the syllabically swift emcee.
Radioactive will be Yelawolf’s first release on Eminem’s Shady Records—and as of late, Mr. Mathers himself has vocally championed the rapper’s gift on the mic as well as affirmed the quality of the forthcoming album.
