This weekend YouTube invites you to share in a cyber celebration.
Lollapalooza kicks off its 20-year anniversary today, and keeping up with the streaming trend used by other major festivals like Bonnaroo and Coachella, YouTube is featuring a live stream of this weekend’s major live acts.
Tonight, the stream starts up with Chris Martin crooning his popular piano-rock onstage with Coldplay at 9:30 ET. Other acts included in the stream are The Cars, The Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket and many others.
Lollapalooza’s production company, C3 Presents, also represents the Austin City Limits festival, and it reportedly made a deal with YouTube to live stream the Austin-based festival as well.
According to The Wall Street Journal, YouTube music marketing manager Dana Vetter said the festival isn’t worried about live streams killing ticket sales.
“There will never be [an online] moment that eclipses the fact that people want to be in the Chicago sunshine with their friends,” Vetter said.
