Update: At Least Two Dead in Pukkelpop Stage Collapse

Update: An updated report from The Associated Press says that the Mayor of a Belgian town confirmed that two people were killed and 40 were injured as a result of the extreme weather at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium. Another local newspaper, The DH Daily, said four people were killed.

The Pukkelpop stage that the Smith Westerns were set to perform on has collapsed in Belgium. The band tweeted, “Stage collapsed max almost got crushed by the tress. I hope pukkelpop has insurance bc all our shit is broke,” just an hour after tweeting “Looks like it’s going to rain.” None of the band members were reported as injured.

Festival attendees have been tweeting images of the collapse, and a video of the stage before the collapse can be seen here.

NME reported that extreme weather downed trees, which destroyed the stage the band was about to play on. The site reported at the time that it wasn’t clear if anyone had been hurt, but it was suggested that emergency services had been called.

Stay tuned for more updates as we receive them.
