Watch the Trailer for <i>The Rum Diary</i>

Earlier today the first trailer was released for The Rum Diary, an upcoming film based on the pioneering gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson’s novel of the same name. The film stars Johnny Depp as Paul Kemp, a journalist who moves from New York to Puerto Rico in the 1950s and finds himself tangled up with a corrupt businessman, the businessman’s seductive fiancée and his own burgeoning alcoholism.

Depp was a friend of Thompson and previously portrayed him in 1998’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The Rum Diary is being directed by Bruce Robinson (director of cult hit Withnail and I) and will be in theaters later this year on Oct. 28. Check out the trailer below.
