50 Cent's Football Drama Forced to Change Title

Rapper-turned-actor 50 Cent’s film about a football player who is diagnosed with cancer first made headlines when the official title was released. Originally it was entitled Things Fall Apart. Sound familiar? The title was used for the groundbreaking novel written by Chinua Achebe in the ’50s.

At first many thought good ol’ Fiddy was starring in an adaptation of the book until the synopsis came out. Jokes about confusing the two works caused Achebe to take legal action against the film to force a name change. Producers offered money to hold onto the name, but the author felt it was an insult to offer money for something so important to his native Nigeria.

The film officially changed its name, but only barely. 50 Cent’s drama will now go by All Things Fall Apart. It has been on the film festival circuit and was picked up for distribution by Image Entertainment and will likely see release in early 2012.
