Beastie Boys' Ad-Rock Guests on Cooking TV Show, Holds Special Contest

In a bizarre twist, Adam Horovitz, better known as Beastie Boys emcee King Ad-Rock (the one with the higher, nasally delivery), unexpectedly popped up on Bravo’s cooking competition show Top Chef: Just Desserts, an spinoff of the popular series.

After the chef contestants finished losing their shit over Ad-Rock standing right in front of them, Ad-Rock and host Gail Simmons revealed the special Beastie Boys-themed food contest that was in store. A huge cart was promptly wheeled out containing foods mentioned in the lyrics of Beastie Boys songs, including bacon, pork and beans, ravioli, popcorn and, of course, matzo balls. Apparently the challenge was for the contestants to work these decidedly non-dessert items into their next dessert.

To help motivate the contestants, Ad-Rock also offered a quick glimpse of insight to the relationship between music and food: “Music is similar to sampling ingredients in food. It’s just sort of what you can take to make your own and make different and impress your friends.”
