Nintendo Announces New 3DS Games

Nintendo Announces New 3DS Games

The Tokyo Game Show, one of the industry’s biggest conventions, is taking place this weekend and as is normal, Nintendo has announced some new games and revealed some details on others at their pre-TGS conference.

First and foremost, Nintendo focused on attempting to push back the 3DS’ poor system launch with an almost overwhelming amount of new games including two exclusive RPGs, a new Mario Tennis game, a new Paper Mario 3D game, Luigi’s Mansion 2, and Monster Hunter 4. The two RPGs are a new Square Enix adventure given the peculiar title Bravely Default: Flying Fairy and a new game from the popular RPG-strategy series, Fire Emblem. This staggering amount of exclusive games is almost certainly meant to send a signal to the industry that Nintendo simply won’t let the 3DS fail.

Furthermore, in a rather interesting move, Nintendo attempted to cater specifically to female audiences with the announcement of a stylish new pink 3DS and a few female-oriented games (including a fashion game called Girls’ Mode and a Hatsune Miku-based music game). Nintendo also included more details and a gameplay footage of their new entry in the Mario series, Super Mario 3D Land. The game looks to incorporate styles from both 2D and 3D games in the series and focus on creative uses of the system’s 3D capabilities.

Lastly, Nintendo included an exciting detail about their upcoming Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. According to game creator Shingeru Miyamoto, the game will feature up to 50-100 hours of gameplay, which is significantly more than most Zelda games have previously included. Although this number includes secondary modes like the boss battle mode, it definitely means Zelda fans will have plenty to do in the upcoming adventure when it hits stores on Nov. 20.

Check out some new Zelda footage, as well as some footage for the new 3DS Mario game below.
