After a trailer surfaced earlier this month announcing the follow-up to Blakroc, The Black Keys’ 2009 rap-rock album with rapper Damon Dash, fans’ hopes were high for more prospective material from the collaborative project.
However, in an interview at Atlanta’s Music Midtown 2011 on Saturday, where The Black Keys performed a high-profile set before Coldplay, drummer Patrick Carney dispelled the notion, stating the trailer was unauthorized and has actually been around since the original Blakroc was released. Though the Keys did record eight new songs with Damon Dash, the rapper and his media group apparently mistakenly posted the video on their YouTube page.
”Blakroc 2 is not coming out soon, although somehow … there was a trailer that was made like two years ago without our permission and was recirculated again without our permission,” Carney matter-of-factly states in the interview. No plans to release Blakroc 2 are currently in the works.
