Two years ago, the Argentinian film The Secret in Their Eyes won the best foreign language film Oscar, beating out favorites such as The White Ribbon and A Prophet. With an American remake being planned for 2012, the film may have its star with Denzel Washington.
Washington will be playing the role of Benjamin Esposito that Ricardo Darin played in the 2009 original. The Secret in Their Eyes follows Esposito, who is a retired legal counselor who writes a book about an unsolved case that still haunts him years later. The murder case also brings to light feelings he had for his boss, whom he also has loved for years.
Washington was offered the role by director Billy Ray, who previously directed Shattered Glass from 2003 and 2007’s Breach. Ray also wrote the screenplays for State of Play and the Jodie Foster thriller Flightplan.
