With Universal Studios recently opening the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Disney has decided to also open their own park based on a gigantic franchise: They announced yesterday they will be opening Avatar Land.
The park, based on the highest-grossing film ever, will be created at the Animal Kingdom area of Disney World in Orlando, Fla. With construction to begin in 2013, the $400 million project will take place over the next five years.
This will be the first of the Avatar Lands, which will most likely expand to other Disney parks. James Cameron and his producing partner Jon Landau are working with Disney to bring their world to life, saying that Animal Kingdom is the perfect place for their combination of humans and nature.
Avatar 2 is scheduled to be released in December 2014 with Avatar 3 planned for the following year, in December 2015. Worldwide, the original Avatar has made $2.7 billion dollars, more than any other film ever.
