In July, we caught up with Fanfarlo frontman Simon Balthazar about the follow-up to the band’s 2009 release, Reservoir. Balthazar told Paste that the band was working with Ben Allen, who’s produced Animal Collective and Deerhunter.
“We really liked Ben’s style,” Balthazar said. “We must have talked to a dozen different producers, but it really worked out [with Ben]. He’s a really great guy, he had just really good ideas. We definitely got the most out of each other.”
Although Fanfarlo’s new album isn’t expected to be released until early 2012, you can still check out one of the new tracks now. The song is called “Replicate,” and as promised, the band has moved into a pop-heavy direction with the bulk of the instruments being synthesizers and strings.
“Replicate” has a video at the band’s recently re-launched website. The collaboration with Alex Southam features shirtless band members playing invisible keyboards and percussion. You can check it out—along with their American tour dates— below.
