Justin Timberlake to Star as '70s Record Producer
Instead of actually making music, Justin Timberlake will star in a film about making music. The Social Network actor and “SexyBack” singer will star as Neil Bogart in a biopic about the Casablanca Records founder’s life in the 1970s, Deadline reports.
The project, called Spinning Gold, will also mark Timberlake’s first venture into being a film producer. Boardwalk Films, the indie outlet for Bogart’s son’s recently founded Boardwalk Entertainment Group will financially back the film.
Tim Bogart, one of Neil Bogart’s sons and Boardwalk Entertainment co-founder, penned the script about his father’s life. It will tell the story of his father’s journey from growing up in a poor Brooklyn neighborhood to becoming a millionaire record producer who helped define the disco era. Neil’s life was cut short after he died of cancer in the early ‘80s at the age of 32.
