Mike Patton to Release Film Score Album

Singer-producer Mike Patton, of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame (among many other groups), has announced yet another album to add to his prolific musical catalog. No, he’s not doing a Faith No More reunion album, nor is he recording with his avant-metal band Fantômas or most recent project Peeping Tom. For this one, he’s venturing out on his own—and what’s more, it’s going to be a film score.

The new LP will be titled The Solitude of Prime Numbers, which Patton wrote for the 2010 movie of the same name, inspired by Paolo Giordano’s 2008 book.

Patton may be one of the most versatile and productive rock figures of the past 20 years, but he’s only done a couple of film scores. As such, The Solitude of Prime Numbers is a sonic departure for Patton, featuring textural, cinematic and personal orchestral music.

In a mathematical nod to the title of the namesake novel and movie, the album’s 16 tracks are labeled as prime numbers. Whether or not this means the non-prime-number tracks in between will be one-second tracks of silence to keep the prime number sequence intact on CD (like the "untitled"s on TV on the Radio’s Return to Cookie Mountain), only time will tell.

Here is the full tracklisting for The Solitude of Prime Numbers:

2. Twin Primes
3. Identity Matrix
5. Method of Infinite Descent

13. Abscissa
