PJ Harvey Wins Mercury Prize
The Mercury Prize, given out each year since 1992, is an award honoring the best album released from the United Kingdom and Ireland. This year’s winner was PJ Harvey’s newest release, Let England Shake.
PJ Harvey beat out albums including Adele’s 21, Elbow’s Build a Rocket Boys!, James Blake’s self-titled release and several others. Her win makes her the first person to win the year two separate years, having won previously for 2001’s Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.
Previous winners of the award have included Arctic Monkeys’ Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, Dizzee Rascal’s Boy in da Corner, and the first winner, Primal Scream’s Screamadelica.
